SPOKANE, Wash. (Jan. 10, 2009) The Spokane and Lilac City Figure Skating Clubs will host a special event as part of U.S. Figure Skating's National Skating Month on Saturday, January 10th, 2009 at Riverfront Park Ice Palace from 1:00-4:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public. Regular public skate admission will be charged, however, skate rental will be free during this session only, sponsored by Group Health.
Activities will include prize give-a-ways, exhibitions from local figure skaters, free mini lessons, and information from local skating clubs. There will also be information about the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships which will be celebrating the one year out countdown on January 15, 2009 at River Park Square.
National Skating Month, now in its eighth year, allows U.S. Figure Skating member clubs to reach out to new members in their community by offering the fundamentals of ice skating from professionally trained instructors and skaters. The goal of National Skating Month is to increase awareness and participation in ice skating. Activities like this event play a large role in gaining increased exposure in the community.
